During his playing career he was a National Open Division MVP award winner and a 3 time All-American fastpitch pitcher. Rich also participated in 3 Olympic sports festivals, and was a member on 3 National Championship teams.
For the past 21 years, Rich has been a full-time fastpitch pitching instructor. Over the course of that time he has produced well over 100 college pitchers, a national Gatorade player of the year, two state Gatorade players of the year as well as dozens of regional and all-state pitchers. Annually he generally has between 3 to 5 of the top 20 high school pitchers in ERA and strikeouts in the state of California and does so by consistently developing many of the region’s top pitchers.

Reggie played his collegiate baseball at Arizona State University as an OF/1B/P. He was signed to a professional contract in 1987 and played 16 seasons within the Padres, Brewers, Reds and Orioles organizations. Reggie then spent several years coaching at the professional level before settling down and coaching High School ball in Vacaville.
Reggie soon acquired an interest in softball after being introduced to the sport by several of the USWNT players training in Chula Vista. His interest in softball pitching began after a chance meeting with Rich Balswick at the local batting cages, and has been being mentored by Rich ever since. To this day, Rich and Reggie work together to train athletes in the Balswick method of pitching.
When his daughter Maddie began playing at age 8, Reggie began his softball coaching career. After a stint in Bobby Sox, Reggie (and Maddy!) moved into travel ball with the NorCal Cruisers. They are both currently with the All American Mizuno 18u Elite, where Maddie is an elite pitcher!
