Career Highlights
COLLEGE
Whitney played her college ball for the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks. She finished with a career batting average of .300 and 25 home-runs. In the circle she had a career 48-15 record and 1.57 ERA. During her career at JSU, the Gamecocks made post season all three years with two Conference Championships. She leads JSU records across the boards (ERA, strikeouts, shutouts, etc.).
Whitney finished her career having been selected to the OVC All-Conference Team three times while earning the conference tournament MVP twice. She ranked ninth in the NCAA Div 1 in ERA in 2016.
In her Junior year with the Gamecocks, Whitney was named OVC Pitcher of the Year, All-OVC First Team and OVC All-Tournament honors and named to the NFCA All-Region Third Team…threw 155.0 innings and compiled a 16-4 record and a 1.13 ERA…recorded a team-high 127 strikeouts and only 47 walks…finished with a team-high four saves…tossed 18 complete games and nine shutouts…threw a five-inning no-hitter at Tennessee State on April 3 then a seven-inning no-hitter against Morehead State on April 16…struck out 7-or-more batters in 10 games…finished the conference play with a 14-0 record and a 0.85 ERA…threw 24 innings during the OVC Tournament and surrendered only four runs on 14 hits while striking out 11...tossed a career-high 12.1 innings and 11 strikeouts on 177 pitches in a 5-4 14-inning thriller against Oregon State during the Auburn Regional…at the plate, batted .243 with 11 doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 25 RBI…struck out only 35 times in 173 at bats
HIGH SCHOOL
Whitney played three seasons for head coach Amy Sullivan at Pelham High School in Pelham, Ala., after Kingwood Christian playing for her father Jeff Gillespie. She was named first team all-state in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013, while earning Super All-State honors in 2013, and in her senior season of 2013 was named the Birmingham News Metro Player of the Year. Boasting a 0.76 ERA with a 13-2 record and nine saves, she threw 10 shutouts and two no-hitters in her senior season. Whitney was a four-time all-district player and a three-time team MVP and was selected to compete in the 2012 AHSAA All-Star Game. Whitney was also a basketball standout, claiming MVP honors in the 2010 regional tournament.
TRAVEL BALL
Whitney played her travel ball for the Birmingham Vipers based out of Hoover, Alabama with several top ten finishes at Nationals.
